GENERAL INFORMATION

What is STAIRtoCARE?
STAIRtoCARE is an all-ages charity stairclimb event in support of The Lung Association. On STAIRtoCARE event days, participants of all ages and abilities let their breath fuel them as they climb the stairs at a pace of their choosing. As stairclimbing is a challenging activity, climbers are always invited to "catch their breath" and celebrate their fundraising successes at a post-climb celebration! 
When is the next STAIRtoCARE event?
Our next STAIRtoCARE event will take place on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario.
Who organizes STAIRtoCARE?
STAIRtoCARE is organized and executed by staff and volunteers of The Lung Association. Learn more about volunteering at STAIRtoCARE.

Will my information be shared with anybody else?
The Lung Association respects your privacy. The information collected will be used to process your gift and issue a receipt, provide you with additional information about the activities of The Lung Association and its professional health-care societies and request support from you to further our mission to improve lung health. If you do not wish your name to be used for one or all of these activities, please call our Donor Fulfilment Centre at 1-888-344-LUNG (5864) or email us at donors@on.lung.ca. REGISTERING

Do I have to register to participate? How much is the entry fee?
Yes, you must register and pay the entry fee (Adults: $38. Children and youth: $19). Your entry fee includes entrance into the stadium stairclimb and access to our on-field activities and exclusive post-climb tailgate party, a $10 food voucher, and swag bag! The registration fee is not tax deductible, and is non-refundable. NOTE: Climbers who raise $150 before October 2, 2016 are eligible to receive one (1) Hamilton Tiger-Cats ticket voucher. Raise $350 and receive two (2) Hamilton Tiger-Cats ticket vouchers, plus a $25 in-stadium food voucher!
When is the registration deadline for the next STAIRtoCARE event?
The deadline for online registration is noon on September 23, 2016. Those wishing to participate after this date may register on site.
I am having trouble registering as an individual, registering a new team, or joining an existing team. How can I resolve this?

Is there a minimum number of people required in order to form a team?
There is no minimum for a team. Teams can consist of as little as two and up to ten people. Consider forming a team with your family, friends or colleagues! 
Can I register the day of the stair climb?
YES! Just make sure to have your registration fee (Adults: $38. Children and youth: $19) and any donations youve gathered with you. Cash, cheques or credit cards will be accepted at the registration table (Gate 5). Your entry fee will include entrance into the stadium climb and entrance into the post-climb tailgate party. The registration fee is not tax deductible, and is non-refundable. 
What is the Participant Centre?
When you register for STAIRtoCARE, our system will set you up with a personal webpage (and team webpage if you register a team). You can personalize this page with photos and personal stories, manage your personal donations, and track your progress. It also allows you to send a link to your friends and family members, so can sponsor you immediately online.
Do I have to use the pages in my Participant Centre?
No. This page will automatically be created it for you, but you don’t have to use it. Anyone wishing to donate to your fundraising efforts will be able to view your page even if you don’t personalize it.

 

SPONSORING CLIMBERS or DONATING DIRECTLY

When will The Lung Association send out tax receipts for STAIRtoCARE donations?
For online donations/pledges, the e-receipts are issued immediately. For cash/cheque pledges/donations collected and brought to or made at the event, tax receipts are issued by the Provincial Office after the event and any credit card and cheque payments processed/cleared. Please note that the participant's registration fee is not tax deductible, and non-refundable.
I have lost my original tax receipt and require a duplicate. What do I do?
If you require a duplicate tax receipt please call our Donor Fulfilment Centre at 1-888-344-LUNG (5864) or email us at donors@on.lung.ca.
I made an online donation and I cannot open my tax receipt. Can you help?
Every time you make an online donation to The Lung Association, an electronic tax receipt is sent instantly to your email address. Your e-receipt is a PDF that cannot be altered, and is your official receipt for income tax purposes. All you need to do is print out the receipt and include a copy with your income tax return.
You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print your receipt; it is available to download for FREE at: www.adobe.com

Is there a fundraising minimum?
Climbers pick their own fundraising goals - every dollar counts!  Climbers who raise $150+ are eligible for exciting fundraising incentives, including Hamilton Tiger-Cats ticket vouchers! 
Can I mail a donation to The Lung Association directly?

Can I donate to The Lung Association directly online?
Yes! Click here to make a general donation. To sponsor a climber, find the participant you wish to sponsor and click the "Donate" button on their page.

 

VOLUNTEERING

How do I sign up for a volunteer shift?

Do I need to have previous volunteer experience to volunteer?
No, you don’t have to have volunteered previously with The Lung Association. New volunteers are welcome.
How old do you have to be to volunteer? Will I qualify for high school community service hours?
We welcome student volunteers! Students' volunteer hours will be tracked, and a letter of confirmation is provided to the student to submit confirming their volunteer service. If you are over the age of 14 and would like to volunteer, please contact Sandy Lee at slee@on.lung.ca
How do I sign up for a volunteer shift?

Can I volunteer with a friend or group?
All friend or group members will be required to complete a volunteer application. If you want to volunteer side by side, simply sign up for the same position during the same shift time (provided multiple positions are available). Although we cannot guarantee that you will be matched with your friend or group, we will certainly try.
Can I bring my child with me when I volunteer?
For safety reasons children younger than 12 are not permitted to accompany volunteers during their volunteer shift. Please note there will not be daycare available.
Is there a coat or bag check for me to leave my personal belongings?
There is not a coat or bag check at the event. The Lung Association will not be responsible for any lost or stolen property while volunteering at the event.

 

ALL ABOUT EVENT DAY - October 2 in Hamilton

When and where can I pick up my STAIRtoCARE climb package?
Participants will pick up packages and drop off donations at registration (Gate 5) on event day. Registration will be open from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Can I pick up my team mate’s climb package?
No, each participant must register themselves and sign a waiver at the registration desk.
I’m not sure how many stairs I will be able to climb. Is this event just for the athletic and climbing elite?
Absolutely not! STAIRtoCARE is an inclusive event with both a general and a competitive level. All levels of fitness are welcome and everyone is encouraged to participate.
What time does the event start and when should I be there?
Registration opens at Gate 5 at 10 a.m. on October 2, 2016. The climb will run from noon – 12:30 p.m. The tailgate will run from 12:30 – 2 p.m. 
Can friends and family come to watch me climb?
Absolutely! The more spirit the better! For access to Stair to Care 2016, please register here.
Will my friends and family be allowed to attend the Tailgate Party?

How will the event be timed?
Only the competitive component of the event will be timed. Participants will be put into timed heats upon registration on site. Climbers will then do a series of 14 timed ascents which will be added together for the cumulative total. 19+ breathers only, please! Prizes will be awarded to the three fastest total times (based on timed ascent only).
Is there a coat or bag check for me to leave my personal belongings?

Is there parking at the event?
Parking around Tim Hortons Field is limited. Please consult the Tiger-Cats website for information about parking and free shuttle bus service.
Is Tim Hortons Field accessible?
Tim Hortons Field design exceeds the accessibility specifications outlined in the Ontario Disabilities Act (ODA) and the Hamilton Disabilities Act (HDA) for both seating and washrooms. Tim Hortons Field features multiple accessible seating options in a variety of sections throughout the building and at a variety of price points
