How do my donations help?

With your help, we can continue to save lives and improve the quality of life for thousands of Ontarians -- perhaps even someone close to you. Support such as yours has been the driving force behind The Lung Association for more than a century, enabling us to lead the fight against lung disease with one simple goal -- to save lives.

What is a matching gift?

Many employers will agree to match fund raising donations made by their staff. Please check where you work to see if they are willing to commit to a matching gift. Matching gifts can be submitted by contacting Sandy Lee at slee@lungontario.ca

What is a team Captain?

Being a team captain is very easy. Captains gather together friends, family, and colleagues and encourage them to participate in this event together. Each captain provides guidance to their team members, from registering online, to setting up and achieving their fundraising goals, to personalizing their own fundraising pages (with why it is so important to them that people support them in this event), to emailing friends, co-workers and family members, helping to achieve their overall fundraising goals. SUCCESS! Some team captains host rallies before the climb, but it is not required. In a nutshell, we need the captain’s help to rally folks to join, raise funds, climb and have fun while we stomp out lung disease on those stairs!

Is it a race?

The only race is really the race against lung disease! For you, it can be a race, but only if you want it to be. There will be some climbers who run up those stairs as fast as they can, while others will climb, one step at a time to the top!

We welcome all folks to participate, whether it be race, run, or walk up the stairs, all 487 of them, with the only goal of defeating lung disease one step at a time.

What do I bring with me on race day?

Please bring your fundraising pledge sheets and funds you have collected and not yet turned in. If you are the team captain, please bring your roster of team members, in addition to the amount each individual team member has raised (if not online). Most importantly, bring that smile, enthusiasm and tons of energy, as it is contagious!

 

How many floors/flights/stairs will we be climbing?

25 storeys / 487 steps / 338 feet tall

 

Is there a coat check?

Unfortunately a coat and bag check are unavailable at this venue. Please do not bring valuables to the stair climb. The Lung Association, Jackson Square, and First Real Properties Limited are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Is there a minimum fundraising component to the race?

Yes, there is a minimum fundraising commitment of $100.00. Climbers have until event day to meet their minimum fundraising goal of $100.00 per person.

 

Does my registration fee of $38.00 go towards my fund raising minimum?

No, the registration fee and fundraising minimum are separate.

How many people need to be on my team?

To qualify as the fastest team in your category, your team must have at least 4 members.

Why do I need by birth date on my registration?

We kindly ask for your year of birth in order to determine your age bracket for the post climb awards.

 

What time should I arrive?

Early bird check-in is at 8:00 a.m. at The Honest Lawyer Restaurant, so arrive early, register and enjoy your coffee.

Where can I get my start time?

The Climb opens to the public at 10:00 a.m. You will be escorted to the start line in small groups of 10, and start every minute or so, depending on the number of climbers.

The next group are the College students in gear, followed by EMC, Police, First responders-no gear and lastly firefighters in full gear, so that we can all cheer them on.

 

Will I be timed?

Yes, each participant will be timed with a timing bib distributed that morning as you check in.

 

Where can I get my results?

Official event times for every participant will be available at the post-event celebration at The Honest Lawyer Restaurant in Jackson Square and should be on The Lung Association's website by Tuesday, November 13th.

 

Can I pass someone?

To ensure the safety of all climbers and allow for the best experience, please pass slower climbers on the wall without the rail, and let them know you are coming from behind to pass. You should always climb on the rail side of the stairwell.

 

Will there be water?

Water will be available prior to and post event. For the safety of the climbers, you are not allowed to bring your own water bottle or camel pack into the stairwells.

Where are the washrooms?

Washrooms are located in the mall and the restaurant.

 

What if I need to stop?

If you cannot complete the climb, volunteers will be stationed throughout the stairwells to assist you and escort you from the stairwell to the nearest elevator. Rest and water stops will be located on the 8th and 18th floors. You are not allowed to exit any floor without First Real Properties Security personnel.

 

What if I require medical assistance?

Medical staff will be on-site for those who may need assistance throughout the event. In case of emergency, contact the closest stairwell monitor to reach the emergency medical personnel. You are not allowed to exit any floor without First Real Properties Security personnel.

 

Can I wear headphones?

You may wear headphones, but please be conscious of the other climbers and the volunteers in the stairwells.

Can my family and friends meet me at the top?

Unfortunately, due to tight security reasons, family and friends are unable to meet you as you cross the finish line. However, all family and friends are invited to join us for the post climb celebration.

Will there be awards?

Yes, after the climb, awards will be made to the following:

Please note: Firefighters MUST bring their own SCBA's and climb "on air". Firefighters in full gear and "on air" will be entered to win a customized combat suit compliments of Starfield Lion valued at $1,500.00.

Where will the awards be?

Individual and team awards will be handed out at the post climb celebration at the Honest Lawyer Restaurant in Jackson Square.

 

Can children participate?

Please note that all climbers must be at least 7 years old by event day in order to participate. Any climber under the age of 18 must climb with an adult, and must not be left alone under any circumstances.

For adults who climb at a faster pace, please note that your child may not be left unattended while you climb. Please make arrangements accordingly.

 

Are receipts available for my donors?

Donations are tax deductible. Gifts made on-line will receive an acknowledgement via email. We ask that you not mail cash. All cheque donations over $20.00 will receive a thank you acknowledgement and tax receipt.
